In developed countries, Biomedical Engineers are at the forefront of healthcare since accurate diagnosis and treatment by doctors are highly dependent on the proper functionality of the medical and life sciences equipment. However, in developing countries such as Botswana, this is not the case. Equipment maintenance and calibration set standards are not prioritized leading to poor service delivery, poor utilization of healthcare budgets and even loss of life. It is because of this dire situation that LEMS was formed.
