What is Orthodontics?

Orthodontics is a specialty of dentistry. In younger patients, it involves monitoring the growth and development of the teeth, face and jaws and timely intervention with braces and other related appliances in order to straighten the teeth, align the jaws and give the person a healthy and attractive smile.

However, a large section of our patients are adult patients (21years and above) where orthodontic treatment is aimed at fixing existing alignment problems and improve smile aesthetics and the ability to bite and chew food, as well as making teeth easier to clean and look after. Specialist Orthodontists are Dentists who have completed further training and study.

What is involved with orthodontic treatment:

• Braces for 18 to 36 months (sometimes more in adults and complicated cases)

• Regular visits every 1 to 2 months for adjustment and activation of the braces
