The National Development Bank (NDB) was established under an Act of Parliament in 1963, to promote the economic development of Botswana. NDB is a Government owned financial institution operating under the control of a Board of Directors, appointed by the Minister of Finance and Development Planning. To implement its mandate, the Bank’s focus is provision of loan financing to new and existing undertakings falling under
the following categories:
Agricultural sector
All Agricultural projects such as game and livestock farming, horticulture, purchasing agricultural machinery & equipment and inputs (fertilisers, chemicals, seeds, feed, land development etc.)
Commercial sector
It includes all retailing, service industry and tourism. This includes working capital, machinery and equipment and building construction & refurbishment for these types of businesses.
Industrial Sector
All industrial, manufacturing, processing and mining undertakings. Examples include mining & quarrying, grain milling, textiles, tanning, leather products & processing, etc. It also includes loans for working capital, machinery and equipment, furniture & fixtures, motor vehicles and building construction for these businesses.
Real Estate
Property purchase and property development for office space, commerce and retail space, industrial space and commercial residential space.
Human Development Sector
Including educational loans and residential house loans.
