- To ensure that Government is visible and accessible.
- To provide the public with accurate, timely, clear and relevant information about Government policies, programs, services and initiatives.
- To use a variety of new and traditional methods to communicate, and to provide information in multiple formats that meets the needs of all citizens.
- To routinely identify and address communication needs and issues in the development , implementation and evaluation of Government policies, programs, services and initiatives.
- To foster an approach of cooperation and collaboration between and amongst Government Ministries, Stakeholders and Departments.
Disability Coordination Office
- Implement Persons with Disability Act
- Implement Policies, Programs and Strategies including National Disability Policy and any other policy for improving the quality of life for persons with disability
- Mobilize resources for the disability agenda
- Prepare and publish appropriate guidelines for avoidance of discrimination on the ground of disability
- Promote recognition and implementation of legislation on the rights of persons with disabilities;
- Guide and support the Government and Sectorial Ministries’ interventions as they relate to, or impact on, persons with disabilities;
- Undertake research, educational programs and other programs to promote the objects of the Act;
- Conduct awareness programs for the recognition, acceptance within the community, of the equality of persons with disabilities
- Carry out such functions and do all such things as may appear necessary for the purpose of the Act
The persons with Disability Act ,2024 established the National Disability Council as the overall coordinating body on National Disability issues. The Disability Coordination Office is the Secretariat to the Council.
FUNCTIONS OF THE NATIONAL DISABILITY COUNCIL
- Receive and approve action plans as per sections 62 of the Act
- Monitor the Development and Operations of the Disability Standards
- Grant exception as per section 71 of the Act
- Oversee the development and Implementation of Policies ,programs ,Strategies and Legislation including National Disability Policy and any other Policy for improving the quality of lives of persons with Disability and resources mobilisation
- Oversee implementation of Government and Sectorial Ministries’ interventions as they relate to ,or impact on persons with Disability.
